Megaritiki
Megaritiki is a Greek olive variety, named after the town of Megara and grown in the dry country of central Greece — Attica, the Megarid and Boeotia. It is the one variety we mill for Mount Helikon extra virgin olive oil.
- Named for
- Megara, in Attica — «Μεγαρείτικη»; also traded as Chondrolia.
- Fruit
- Medium, ovoid — 2.5 to 5 g, most often near 4.2 g.
- Oil content
- 20–25% of the fruit's weight.
- Harvest
- October — down to the mill in Xironomi by the crate.
- Table and oil
- Dual-purpose — Attica's green cracked tsakistes are Megaritiki. Ours goes to the mill.
- In the glass
- Ripe, mild fruit and a light peppery finish — the full profile is on the Mount Helikon page.
